Chorale
The Foundation
The Chorale is the foundation of the WJHS Choral Program. It is the mixed vocal ensemble that is open to Freshmen and Sophomores. We will start with the basics of vocal performance, musical literacy, music theory, sight-singing, rhythm-reading, and basic choral musicianship. They perform a concert every quarter of the school year, and all performances are mandatory and part of their grade.
Chamber Singers
The Advanced
The Concert Choir is the advanced mixed ensemble of the WJHS Choral Department, comprised of Seniors and Juniors, along with Sophomores that have successfully completed the audition process. This ensemble will work on expert levels of musicianship, sight-singing, and music theory. This ensemble gives the most performances during the school year, singing the most advanced choral literature available.
Dually Noted
The Show Choir
Dually Noted is the only competing show choir in the state of Kentucky. A high level of commitment is required because it is both a Zero-Block class at 7:45-8:35 Monday through Friday, along with Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00
Dually Noted has the dual commitment of performance and service, as the group rehearses a competition set, but also makes themselves available to do public services for the community. Since this is a non-funded co-curricular music activity, membership requires a fee and must participate in fund-raising.
West Side Sound
The A Cappella Ensemble
WSS is an auditioned contemporary a cappella ensemble that meets Mondays from 4:00-5:00. Because of the ensemble meeting for a brief amount of time, students in WSS must have the work ethic to learn on their own and come prepared to rehearse at the highest quality. One requirement is having access to Google Classroom or Dropbox by their phone, tablet, or laptop.
Crescendo
The Middle School Show Choir
Through the JCS Arts+ Program, we have the opportunity to create the first Middle School Show Choir in the state of Kentucky! The goal is to prepare students to sing music and dance choreographed movement into a complete show package! This is a great opportunity for those who love to perform in the aspect of musical theatre but to a competition set!
This group will rehearse on Mondays from 5:30-7:00 and attendance is mandatory. Because this is an Arts+ program, a fee will be required.
